salvation is of the Lord!

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
John 3.16

amidst the challenging week,
news got to my ears that my decade old friend is born-again!
what a wonderful balm to my soul.
he is officially my brother-in-Christ now!
Praise the Lord.

distractions

"On Sundays I am pretty good and always seem to start afresh;
but on weekdays I am drawn along with those about me.
All my pleasures are innocent ones;
there is surely no harm in going to concerts, driving out, singing, and making little visits!
But these things distract me;
they absorb me;
they make religious duties irksome.
I almost wish I could shut myself up in a cell and so get out of the reach of temptation.

The truth is,
the journey heavenward is all uphill.
I have to force myself to keep on.
The wonder is that anybody gets there with so much to oppose-
so little to help one!"

The Greatest Thing in the World by Henry Drummond

What was Christ doing in the carpenter's shop?
Practising.
Though perfect, we read that He learned obedience, and grew in wisdom and in favour with God.
...
Therefore keep in the midst of life.
Do not isolate yourself.
Be among men and among things, and among troubles, and difficulties.
You remember Goethe's words:
"Talent develops itself in solitude; character in the stream of life."

"I lived for myself, I thought for myself,
For myself, and none beside-
Just as if Jesus had never lived,
As if He had never died."

Love begets love.

when my soul is weary

dear Lord Jesus,
I am weary.
grant me the wonderful and matchless grace of Jesus.
grant me the peace in my heart.
restore a right spirit in me.
help me to press on toward the upward call,
and walk worthy of my calling.
there is a faithful cloud of witnesses,
who have run the race.
arise and shine.

PRESS ON.
to the promise we receive,
with the strength that we have been given,
pressing on to victory.

the good fight of faith

"Fight the good fight, and don't give in until it's truly over."

Does Jesus Care?

  1. Does Jesus care when my heart is pained
    Too deeply for mirth or song,
    As the burdens press, and the cares distress,
    And the way grows weary and long?
    • Refrain:
      Oh, yes, He cares, I know He cares,
      His heart is touched with my grief;
      When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,
      I know my Savior cares.
  2. Does Jesus care when my way is dark
    With a nameless dread and fear?
    As the daylight fades into deep night shades,
    Does He care enough to be near?
  3. Does Jesus care when I’ve tried and failed
    To resist some temptation strong;
    When for my deep grief there is no relief,
    Though my tears flow all the night long?
  4. Does Jesus care when I’ve said “goodbye”
    To the dearest on earth to me,
    And my sad heart aches till it nearly breaks—
    Is it aught to Him? Does He see?

with the little that i have

A man goes out on the beach and sees that it is covered with starfish that have washed up in the tide. A little boy is walking along, picking them up and throwing them back into the water.
"What are you doing, son?" the man asks. "You see how many starfish there are? You'll never make a difference."
The boy paused thoughtfully, and picked up another starfish and threw it in the ocean.
"It sure made a difference to that one," he said

How amiable are Thy tabernacles,

delight in the Lord

“I saw more clearly than ever, that the first great and primary business to which I ought to attend every day was, to have my soul happy in the Lord. The first thing to be concerned about was not, how much I might serve the Lord, how I might glorify the Lord; but how I might get my soul into a happy state, and how my inner man may be nourished . . . I saw that the most important thing I had to do was to give myself to the reading of the Word of God and to meditation on it.” –George Mueller, Delighted in God

my more-than-a-decade-old good friend and sister-in-Christ now

Indeed, blest is the Tie that binds!
as i am typing out this post,
my heart is evermore thankful to Christ Who has proven to be faithful, gracious and loving in my life.
He, Who is Faithful and True,
Who goes before me,
Who parted the Red Sea,
Who died for my sins,
Who rose again on the 3rd Day,
Who knows my frame before the foundations were laid,
Who holds the earth in His Right Hand,
Who knows the balancings of the clouds,
Who was there when the morning stars sang together,
Who loves me with an everlasting Love.

In His Word,
man is described as dust and grasshoppers.
"What is man that He should be mindful of us?"
Grant me a contented heart O Lord
as I rest under the wings of the Almighty,
and my soul shall find rest.

Is anything too difficult for the Lord?

Grace Greater than Our Sin
Julia H.Johnston 1849-1919

"Julia Johnston was for many years involved in the work of Sunday schools at the First Presbyterian Church of Peoria, Illinois, and as a writer of lesson materials for primary age children for the David C. Cook Publishing Company. She also wrote approximately 500 hymn texts. The composer of this hymn, Daniel B. Towner, was for many years the director of the music department at Moody Bible Institute. "Grace Greater Than Our Sin" first appeared in Towner's compilation, Hymns Tried and True, 1911." Sermon Audio

Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,
Freely bestowed on ALL who believe!
You that are longing to see His face,
Will you this moment His grace receive?

Grace, grace, God's grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace grace,
God's grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin!

"But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Romans 5.20,21

Love 3 and 4

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor,
and though I give my body to be burned,
and have not charity,
it profiteth me NOTHING.

我 若 将 所 有 的 周 济 穷 人 ,
又 舍 己 身 叫 人 焚 烧 ,
却 没 有 爱 , 仍 然 与 我 无 益 。

Charity suffereth long,
and is kind;
Charity envieth not;
charity vaunteth not itself,
and is not puffed up.

爱 是 恒 久 忍 耐 ,
又 有 恩 慈 ;
爱 是 不 嫉 妒 ;
爱 是 不 自 夸 ,
不 张 狂 ,

Love 2

Though I have the gift of prophecy,
and understand all mysteries,
and all knowledge;
and though I have all faith,
so that I can remove mountains,
and have not charity,
I am NOTHING.

Through Gates of Splendor

My going to Ecuador is God's counsel, as is my leaving Betty, and my refusal to be counseled by all who insist I should stay and stir up the believers in the U.S. And how do I know it is His counsel? 'Yea, my heart instructeth me in the night seasons.' Oh, how good! For I have known my heart is speaking to me for God!... No visions, to voices, but the counsel of a heart which desires God.
Jim Elliot (p. 2)

Today I read the story of the Cross in John 19 for the first time in the original...the simplicity and pathos made me almost weep; something which has never occurred in my English reading. Surely it is a wonderful story of love.
Jim Elliot (p. 5)

He makes His ministers a flame of fire. Am I ignitable? God deliver me from the dread asbestos of 'other things.' Saturate me with the oil of the Spirit that I maybe a flame. But flame is transient, often short-lived. Canst thou bear this, my soul- short life? In me there dwells the Spirit of the Great Short-Lived, whose zeal for God's house consumed Him. 'Make me Thy Fuel, Flame of God.'
Jim Elliot (p. 6)

I dare not stay home while Quichuas perish.
What if the well-filled church in the homeland needs stirring?
They have the Scriptures Moses, and the prophets, and a whole lot more.
Their condemnation is written on their bank books and in the dust on their Bible covers.
Jim Elliot (p. 8)

Wherever you are, be ALL THERE.
Live to the hilt every situation you believe to be the will of God.
Jim Elliot (p.8)

"There is no work better than to please God;

to please God."

William Tyndale

"This I saw, that when a soul loves God with a supreme love, God's interests and his become one.

love seeketh not her own

"As a Christian, as someone who is seeking to love God with all their heart, our purpose in life is to further God’s kingdom, to bring His desires to pass, not our own. (Matthew 6:10, 33) Nothing we do should be done for our sake, but out of obedience to God. (John 15:4, 10) God’s view of marriage was vastly different than mine. While I had envisioned two people working to please each other, God showed me that His idea was two people working together to please God. God did not make Eve to make Adam feel good about himself or loved or wanted, God made Eve because Adam was better off with her than without her. God showed me that the best way for me to love someone is to love God first and foremost, and to love that person as an outpouring of my love for God. Having my eyes focused on God and living to please Him will lead me to obeying His command to love. (1 John 5:1-3, John 15:9-12)"
